Olympics according to small people
When the kids can’t think of what a certain sport is called, they have the best new titles for them. Recently we’ve had cross-country scooting and ‘look Mom, air hockey is on!’. Toby was especially impressed with Shawn White’s sport, you know the one where, according to Toby, ‘the guy swoops up and down like this’ (and he draws a U in the air with a flat hand). Ellie has yet to see any of the ballerinas (figure skaters). I’m hoping tonight during their primetime coverage, it will early on so she can. I really wish things weren’t shown so late. I suppose there’s always the clips NBC puts online. But it’s not the same as snuggling up with your curly-haired daughter and watching the ice princesses complete their beautiful twirls and triples and land them all. Frankly, I think she cares less about their performance and more about their outfits (girly-girl that she is). * Martin Olympic moments so far: Ellie, watching ski jumping: If I did that, I’d be SCARED! Toby, watching half-pipe: (pumps fist into the air) That’s awesome! I’m going to do that, too. * Just this morning before church we had to go through about 10 different hair accessories before she decided none of them were just right.

I love watching the kids form their “olympic dreams” – Ian, like Toby, plans to be a snowboarder. I remember sitting like Ellie dreaming of becoming a figure skater. How awesome to be able to dream without having certain realities mar it in any way.
