the latest word

The official induction date is Wednesday, January 4th. The doctor said he’ll write up orders to move me to Labor and Delivery early in the morning (say 6am) and get the process started. I know it won’t take longer than a day and a half before she comes, so I figure her birthday will either [...]

she’ll be comin’ round the 4th when she comes

Despite several small contractions yesterday, a slightly elevated blood pressure this afternoon, and a couple of blood tests to rule out pre-eclampsia (which the doctor doesn’t think I have, but is being precautionary), Ellie is still due to come next week.
A week. I still have a couple of un-read magazines, two more books in [...]

disappointing, not devasting

Well folks,here’s the latest.
I was all geared up to start labor and delivery yesterday, but God had a different plan. Ellie’s lungs aren’t developed yet and delivering her this early wouldn’t be best in terms of her health. So…we’re going to giver her another two weeks of growth and then induce labor.
Yes, another two weeks [...]

Soon to meet Eleanor…

Hello, everyone.  This is Brian giving a quick update.  Valerie was admitted to the hospital again on Monday for low ambiotic fluid.  Both she and Eleanor are healthy and feeling fine but will stay in the hospital so that the doctor can keep tabs on the situation.  At this point, he is planning on inducing [...]

quick update

Had my ultrasound and NST (non-stress test) this morning. I got sent home (instead of to the hospital) because both fluid and baby were fine. Hooray!

in, out, in, out….and fruity

I have eaten more fruit these last two weeks than I have in a long while. Not because of Thanksgiving, but because fruit comes with every hospital meal (sometimes several varieties in one meal). I have now been admitted twice for low fluid. First, last Tues, until Wed afternoon. Then this past Mon until Tues. [...]

blame game

Caleb was going to sit on his potty (which we have yet to do anything in or on, but sit) and lifted the little lid. It came off of the seat part and he immediately looked at me and said, "Toby did it".
Later, Brian asked Caleb to help pick up the letter magnets that [...]

disturbing

I opened up one of my kitchen cabinets, where I’m storing my daily-ingested pre-natal vitamins, to partake of one such pill. It just so happens that I keep my vegetable oil up there, too. (No, no connection between those two items). I happened to notice one of the labels:

Food?
Food: Material, usually of plant or [...]

soberer

Is there a season for death? Perhaps people out there with a sense of these things medically (Jennie, Krystal) could say with some authority. I ask because within the last two days I have had emails, a phone call, and read blogs about people dying. I knew none of these people personally, but by virtue [...]

why do the best posts come from meal times?

This evening:
sitting at the table, feeding Toby his yogurt/rice cereal mix; not paying much attention to Caleb, who is capable of feeding himself. suddenly he gives a fake laugh ("ha ha ha") and turns to me with a big grin. he has a pretzel sticking out of his nose.
